En elite-militærgruppe (SG-1) må flygte tilbage til Jorden, da to medlemmer af deres team på uforklarlig vis forsvinder ud i den blå luft. Men de kommer tilbage til en verden, hvor Stargate - en ældgammel opfindelse, som giver dem mulighed for at rejse til hundredvis af planeter - aldrig er blevet opdaget, og hvor deres egen historie er blevet slettet. Nu må de overbevise en tvivlende regering og militæret om, at tidslinjen blev alarmeret af en magtfuld alien-fjende (Ba'al), fordi de vil erobre Jorden - og tiden er ikke på deres side...
